TACMEP Caseworker
It is a challenging yet satisfying role.
There are many types of cases I have had to deal with, the most common being on Housing, Racial harassment and entitlement to Welfare benefits.
My clients are usually referrals through word of mouth. Some are referred to us by statutory and voluntary agencies.
After a client is referred to me I would arrange an initial meeting at TACMEP, look at the documents and evidence and if it’s within our capacity, then I would create a file and make arrangements for further appointments. If not, I would find a person or agencies that would be best for the case. On these occasions, depending on the case, I would continue to monitor the progression of a particular case to ensure a fair and successful outcome.
Some clients approached Tacmep after having gone to other organisations and could not receive the appropriate support. Many are extremely distressed or traumatised by what they were going through, so it was important for me to be sensitive and assurance to help them to the best of our capacity. Sometimes lack of resources makes my work difficult. So I would occasionally arrange to hold meetings with clients at ‘Cornerstones’ (CAB office) on St Isaacs walk, Colchester who have kindly offered their facilities to Tacmep. It enables me to do my job more efficiently. It’s an ideal arrangement as Cornerstones provide other important services (mainly health related) to the community. |
